About Our Initiative

The KukuNyumbani Initiative is a program by USOMI Limited which seeks to ensure consistent supply to the market of Kienyeji (indigenous) chicken while also linking Kienyeji poultry farmers to high value markets.

Our Objectives

What We Are Doing

1. Appropriate breeds and brooding infrastructure:

We are recruiting dedicated farmers (mother units/brooders) to raise day old chicks for 4 weeks and then sell to other farmers when the critical stages in the chicks’ life have elapsed. These mother units should be strategically placed to allow farmers to get access to vaccinated birds whose chance of survival is greatly enhanced. The farmers purchasing these birds are guaranteed quality birds instead of 3rd generation (F3) and 4th generation (F4) chicks supplied by most vendors.

2. Markets and market channels

USOMI LTD will have the primary role of ensuring farmers get access to poultry and poultry product markets with determined prices across the country in a timely and consistent fashion. This prevents distress selling which gets farmers low prices. The farmers must raise the chicken following certain specifications with regard to weight and quality in order to get best prices. Birds older than 4 weeks are expected to be reared as free-range birds.
